DeSantis lays out plans for mass deportations after Trump’s inauguration

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is making his plans for mass deportation known, calling for a state-level liaison to work with the federal government so the state can better implement the incoming administration’s agenda.

During a press conference in Winter Have, Florida, DeSantis made his plan clear, calling for local and state law officers to implement “maximum participation” when it comes to enforcing federal laws.

He also noted that he thinks the federal government was going to “bless” officials with support and empowerment to detain and deport individuals who entered the country illegally.

Another topic discussed during the press conference was the pending appointment of a new position that DeSantis recently announced.

“We are going to be appointing a state immigration officer that will be dedicated to overseeing the coordination with federal authorities and Florida’s existing program,” DeSantis shared.

DeSantis also took time to discuss the state’s efforts in gang enforcement, voting laws, and reforms to education. All are policies that could be on the docket during a possible special session for the state’s legislature.

DeSantis said that he had been in contact with Trump and his transition team, saying he wanted to have his state be a model to others when it comes to enforcing Trump’s immigration policies.

“We have a new sheriff coming in town, nationally,” DeSantis told reporters. “As Florida leads working with the feds, other states will follow suit, and we will create a healthy competition to get things done.”

Trump, a resident of Florida and one-time adversary of DeSantis, reportedly met with his governor this week for a round of golf at the president-elect’s golf course in West Palm Beach.

Trump is also set to return to the White House on Monday when he is sworn in as the 47th president of the US.
