NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Kraft Heinz announced Monday that it is releasing a pickle-flavored ketchup as a "pickle craze" sweeps America.

Heinz touted Pickle Ketchup as a "big dill," saying the savory sauce combines "two beloved Heinz heritage products into one delicious condiment."

The ketchup will begin hitting store shelves in the U.S. in early 2024, following its current soft launch at select retailers in the U.K.

Heinz's director of innovation, Katie Peterson, said pickle mania is sweeping the U.S., with an October report by Datassential finding 73% of Americans enjoy the taste of pickles.

"The current pickle craze in America mirrors the irrational love Heinz fans have for the brand, so it only made sense for our newest ketchup to blend these two beloved tastes together," Peterson said.

Of course, Heinz is no stranger to pickles, producing gherkins and dill and sweet relishes alongside its famous ketchup for decades. The company noted Henry J. Heinz himself earned the nickname "Pickle King" for owning the largest pickle company in the U.S. in the early 1900s.

This is only the latest flavored ketchup to be released by Heinz. Other flavors include peppers like jalapeño, chipotle and habanero, as well as ketchup combined with sriracha, mayonnaise, and chili.
