According to a report from the media company CNN, representatives for former First Lady Melania Trump’s book publisher requested a $250,000 payment for an interview with her before her book releases next week.
CNN shared that it was working to interview the former first lady when it reached out to Skyhorse Publishing. In response, it received a document labeled “Confidentiality and Nondisclosure Agreement.”
Inside, CNN reports that the agreement included a list of “strict terms for an interview and use of material from the book” as well as saying that “CNN shall pay a licensing fee of two hundred fifty thousand dollars.”
The media outlet reported that it did not sign the document, and when it reached out to the publisher’s president, Tony Lyons, he replied, “Neither Melania nor anyone from her team knew anything about the NDA, and the document that was sent reflected an internal miscommunication.”
The memoir, entitled “Melania,” is scheduled to release next week, offering insight into the life and opinions of the former first lady who often tries to stay out of the public eye.
In ads for her book, Melania Trump has discussed several topics hinted at being included in the memoir, such as her experiences with the FBI raiding her Mar-a-Lago residence, her husband being shot at a rally this summer, and more.
Most recently, reporting shared that Melania Trump delves deep into her stance on abortion in her forthcoming memoir, including her belief that abortion is “imperative” to protect.
“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes,” she wrote, according to The Guardian, which received an advanced copy. “Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life.”
Melania Trump’s team has not commented on the CNN report at this time.
