A Los Angeles area McDonald’s was looted on Monday night after a group of teenagers stormed in and ransacked the place, with a video circulating online showing one of the teens taking off with a cash register from the restaurant.
The footage of the chaos was shared on social media, showing workers trying to fight off the teens before hiding behind the counter where they had different items thrown at them.
The teens, at one point, can be seen jumping over the counter of the restaurant and yanking the cash register out of its stand before heading to the door.
“He stole the cash register,” someone can be heard saying in the now-viral clip. The teen then took the register outside, smashed it on the ground, and those present grabbed the money and ran off.
Police shared that they are investigating the incident, which took place on Monday night at the end of a nearby Juneteenth celebration in Leimert Park.
Tony Lardas, the owner of the McDonald’s franchise, shared with Fox 11 that they are “deeply concerned” by what happened on Monday night.
“The safety of employees and customers is my top priority, and we’re focused on supporting our restaurant team as we continue to assist local law enforcement in their investigation,” Lardas said.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department, Drake Madison, shared with the Los Angeles Times that the officer arrived around 8 p.m. after receiving calls of a shooting near the Juneteenth festival.
A few minutes after the officers arrived to investigate the potential shooting, they were notified of the McDonald’s situation, occurring just 2,000 feet away.
One person has been arrested for robbery in connection to the situation, but police are continuing to investigate the incident.
