
A former UPMC doctor and Pitt professor, charged with attempted murder, has been arrested in Hawaii.
Honolulu Police say Gerhardt Konig, now living in Maui, tried to push his wife off of a hiking trail and hit her in the head with a rock on Monday.
The victim as taken to a hospital in critical condition.
The 46-year-old was arrested after a brief foot pursuit near Pali Highway around 6:45 p.m. local time on Monday.
Pitt has since removed Konig’s biography on its website, but he was an assistant professor at Pitt and an anesthesiologist at UPMC.
According to his LinkedIn page, Konig was at UPMC for nearly a decade before leaving in March 2023. He also stopped teaching at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2023.
