Russian President Vladimir Putin is warning the United States to stop interfering in its war with Ukraine -- or else.
During Putin's annual address to Russia's Federal Assembly, he threatened to use to nuclear weapons against the U.S. and its allies if they send troops to Ukraine. He explained that "strategic nuclear forces are on full combat alert and the ability to use them is assured," The Hill reported.
"They must grasp that we also have weapons capable of striking targets on their territory," Putin said, per The Hill. "Everything they are inventing now, spooking the world with the threat of a conflict involving nuclear weapons, which potentially means the end of civilization — don't they realize this?"
This isn't the first time since entering Ukraine more than two years ago that Putin has threatened to use nuclear weapons against those who intervene. And while Putin didn't specify any targets, the US has several strategic points that could ultimately wind up in the crosshairs.
Back in 2019, Russian state television broadcast a list of US military facilities that Moscow would target in the event of a hypothetical nuclear strike, CBS News reported.
The list included more than a dozen locations, including the obvious Pentagon along with multiple military bases equipped to conduct strategic nuclear deterrence and global strike operations.
Locations on the list include:
• The Pentagon -- Washington, D.C.
• Camp David -- Frederick County, Maryland
• Naval Station Norfolk -- Norfolk, Virginia.
• Kings Bay Naval Base -- Camden County, Georgia
• Barksdale Air Force Base -- Bossier Parish, Louisiana
• Whiteman Air Force Base -- Knob Noster, Missouri
• U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base -- Omaha, Nebraska
