From Friday to Monday, at least 10 cities across eight states saw shootings and other violence leave almost a dozen people killed and even more injured as one of the first weekends of summer started out on a bloody note.

Illinois

Chicago was arguably hit the hardest over the weekend, as police shared that a total of 75 people were shot in the city, 13 of them fatally, ABC7 reported.

One shooting that made headlines took place at a Juneteenth celebration on Saturday evening, where 22 people were shot and one person was killed.

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office shared that the shooting had “An unknown number of suspects” who were firing off rounds into a crowd.

“The motive behind this incident is unclear, and this is still an active investigation,” Eric Swanson, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office deputy chief, told reporters on Sunday morning.

The White House commented on the shooting, calling it a tragedy and noting that the president was thinking of those killed and injured.

Missouri

Across the river in St. Louis, a shooting at a downtown office building saw a 17-year-old boy lose his life, along with 11 other teenagers being injured, Fox 2 reported.

The shooting is believed to have been caused by a minor who had a handgun. Police said that the minor was in custody as a person of interest.

Washington

At a campground in Washington state, two people were killed and two others injured when a shooter opened fire in what police are calling a “random” attack on Saturday night, NBC News reported.

The groups of people were staying at the campground after attending a nearby music festival, police shared.

The suspect was confronted by police, which resulted in the believed gunman being shot and taken into custody.

California

In California, shootings hit the southern and northern parts of the state, as eight people were left wounded in Carson after a shooting broke out at a pool party on Saturday night, KABC-TV reported.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shared that the victims at the pool party ranged in age from 16 to 24.

The San Francisco Police Department reported that a “car-to-car” shooting resulted in six people being injured, one of whom had life-threatening injuries, on Sunday evening.

The shooting took place in the streets of San Francisco and began shortly before 7 p.m., police chief Bill Scott said at a news conference.

Elsewhere

Other states that had violence over the weekend included Pennsylvania, which saw shootings wound five civilians in Philadelphia; Maryland, where six people were injured in a Baltimore shooting; Wisconsin, which had six teenagers shot on Monday afternoon in Milwaukee; and Idaho, where a shooter killed four people on Sunday at an apartment complex behind a church.
