There are roughly 1,500 shipwrecks in the Great Lakes — What makes exploring them so alluring?

(WWJ) An estimated 6,000 ships have gone missing across the Great Lakes, while only 1,500 sunken vessels have been discovered.

So, what about these wrecks is so interesting that people would risk their lives just to see them firsthand?

"People are drawn to shipwrecks; they're drawn to the stories," says Corey Adkins, of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society (GLSHS). "It's like one of the last adventures you can go on, when you find a wreck or when you discovery something on the bottom of Lake Superior, or even in the Atlantic..."
