Why do GenZers spend so f'ing much on breakups?

Recent research from the finance app Frich has found that for Gen Zers (born between 1998 and 2012), it can cost around $4,000 to recover from a break up. What’s going on? Why is that figure so high?

“Something Offbeat” is on the case. Host Mike Rogers chatted with one of the founders of Frich – Aleksandra Medina – about how break ups and other spending trends they’ve noticed with Gen Z.

“Inflation, cost of living rising, people kind of, you know, being really, really scared of a recession happening – we thought it was really, really important to package all these emotional feelings and this emotional turmoil into a very, very simple concept, which is it is important to build an emergency fund for all the things that life can throw at you,” Medina explained.
