Tipping culture has gotten out of control.

While it may have been a really good sandwich, a woman’s $7,000 tip at her local Subway in College Park, Georgia, was a total accident that ended up causing her quite the headache.

Vera Conner spoke with NCB News about her $7,112.98 Italian Sub sandwich from Subway. The usual price is $7.54.

Conner shared that she added a tip to the sandwich because she frequents the restaurant almost weekly, but when she checked her receipt, she had accidentally added $7,105.44 in gratuity.

“When I looked at my receipt, I was like oh my God!” Conner told NBC News. “I thought this number looks familiar — it was the last six numbers of my phone number. Who would leave a tip like that?”

As for how she ended up tipping so much, Conner says she thinks it happened when she went to add her phone number for her loyalty points. She believes that the screen switched, moving her to the tip box instead.

Even worse, Conner didn’t notice the charge until days later, resulting in a weeks-long battle of removing the charge from her bank-issued credit card, something she thought was going to be easy until the bank denied her request to dispute the charge.

Conner received a letter from the bank, which didn’t explain why the dispute was denied, causing her to worry.

Eventually, after going to the Subway and her bank to push the issue she was issued a “temporary credit” for the charge.

But looking back on the situation, Conner says she is frustrated with the bank for not flagging the purchase in the first place.

“I’m even getting mad at the bank because I’m like how did they not think $7,000 was suspicious at Subway?” Conner asked.
