Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) - When in Rome, do as the Romans do, right? During a stop at the University of Buffalo for a budget address, New York Governor Kathy Hochul seemed right at home in opening the presentation with a weather report, graphics and all.
There were chuckles from the room as Hochul walked through the evening forecast, graphics and all, to update Western New Yorkers on a round of messy precipitation that would impact the region later Monday.
The discussion quickly transitioned to budget matters as Hochul has been traveling the state since unveiling her proposed spending plan and discussing local impacts.
Staying with the weather theme, Hochul drew applause and a wide smile from
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown when she announced $10 million in funding is included in the budget for the Buffalo office of recovery and planning.
The event was held inside the Center for Tomorrow on the UB campus and the governor used that backdrop to commit $100 million in the state spending plan for research and facilities on the campus.
Hochul noted she has traveled nearly every road across Western New York and quipped she may have experienced 'every pothole' and drew a round of applause and laughter in announcing $211 million in funds for road projects in the region.
Hochul a touted an improved economy in the Western New York region, referencing a 3.3 percent unemployment rate for the combined counties.
