BUFFALO (WBEN) - Generation Development Group held a virtual groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday morning to officially announce the start of construction at the American Mill & Warehouse building located at Silo City.
"The first phase of Silo City will focus on the American Mill & Warehouse and will provide 168 loft-style apartments for the residents of Buffalo, as well as 40,000 square feet of commercial and community space," said Generation Development Co-Founder Anthony Ceroy of the $65 million project.
The American Warehouse was originally built in 1906, functioning as a storage facility as well as a research and development operation for the American Malting Company. It's currently listed on the National Historic Registry and currently zoned as "Flexed Industrial" under the Buffalo Green Code.
"Amenities will include a business incubator to support entrepreneurs, an art exhibition space for the creative community, fitness and wellness center, office space, ample indoor and outdoor green spaces, and hydroponic farm that will produce fresh produce in an area that's otherwise food insecure," said Generation Co-Founder Marvin Wilmoth.
"We're extremely honored to not only take on a historic restoration of this magnitude and significance, but also to help advance a community-driven vision for how we re-imagine the American Mill & Warehouse property," Wilmoth continued.
