NY reports 15,355 new COVID cases as hospitalizations decline

NEW YORK (WBEN) – New York state reported another 15,355 coronavirus cases on Sunday, and New Jersey recorded 5,032, as hospitalizations continued to decline in both states.

The 15,355 new cases in New York were out of 246,836 tests on Saturday for a statewide positivity rate of 6.22%. That's a slight drop from the 6.57% positivity rate the day before, when 16,943 cases were reported.


Of the new cases, 5,319 were in New York City.

The state's total hospitalizations declined by 43 to 8,484. There were 998 patients admitted to hospitals and 947 discharged.

However, the number of patients in intensive care rose by eight to 1,436. The number of intubated patients also rose, by 16, to 892.

New York reported another 151 deaths; 42 of them were in the five boroughs.

On Saturday, Cuomo announced that three more cases of the mutant U.K. COVID strain were found in the state, including one case on Long Island.
