NEW YORK (WBEN) – New York state's seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate has declined for 68 straight days and is now the lowest in the country, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Saturday.
The average statewide positivity over the past seven days was 0.44%. According to Cuomo, data tracked by Johns Hopkins University shows New York now has the lowest rate of any state.
The state's single-day positivity rate was 0.38% on Saturday.
"We're beating back COVID-19 across the state and New York has the nation's lowest seven-day average positivity rate, but it's going to take more vaccinations to get us across the finish line," Cuomo said in a statement. "The more shots we get in arms, the healthier our state becomes."
The governor said more than 20 million vaccine doses have been administered in the state, including 104,457 doses in the past 24 hours.
The share of New Yorkers 18 years and older who have gotten at least one vaccine dose is 69.5%, while 60.7% in that age group have completed their vaccine series, according to the CDC.
The share of all New Yorkers, including under 18, with at least one vaccine dose is 57.4%, while 49.3% have completed their vaccine series, CDC data shows.
The state reported 533 new COVID-19 cases and 11 more deaths Saturday. Hospitalizations declined to 681.
