CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Last year, most high school seniors had to miss out on prom experiences because of the pandemic.

This year, the pandemic is still in play, but there are proms, just done a bit differently than years past.

Lake Forest High School in Illinois plans to host its "You Hold The Key" prom on its front lawn. According to the school's website, groups of up to 96 at a time will go through a two-and-a-half hour routine that starts with check-in, and advances to a red carpet, dinner under a tent, dessert, dancing, pictures, and done.

Bolingbrook High School’s prom will be on its football field for two hours. There's a warning that no heels should be worn on the turf and that prom-goers should bring other shoes or socks to wear on the turf. No food will be served, either, for the May 15 event.

Hinsdale Central High School’s Red Devil Gala Prom will be on its stadium track. It will be a two-hour event that will include a red carpet entrance, photo stations, and performances by a famous mind reader.

Aurora West High School's "Enchanted Garden" prom next weekend will be at Fox Valley Mall. There’ll be DJs and dancing in a couple of different areas, a TV lounge, photo booth, and free carousel rides. As for food, some of the mall outlets such as Taco Bell, Subway, and Cinnabon will remain open for the event. Food will cost extra.

One of the most traditional-type proms this year, aside from all the COVID protocols, is Peotone High School. It’s staging its prom at CD&Me in Frankfort with a sit-down dinner for about 200 people in two areas of the music venue.

Some schools are allowing non-student guests, while others are not. All have spelled out COVID precautions, from providing proof of a COVID test to being screened for symptoms while checking in.
