BUFFALO (WBEN) - At approximately 5:20 Thursday morning, Buffalo Police Officers responded to a shots fired call at an address on Layer Avenue in the city's Riverside neighborhood.

"Upon arrival, they found two female victims who had been shot and killed, and a 6-year-old child who was inside the house unharmed," said Buffalo Police Captain Jeff Rinaldo. "The child was taken to (Oishei) Children's Hospital to be evaluated, and thankfully, there were no injuries sustained by the child."

According to Rinaldo, officers and detectives quickly put together a potential suspect, and the suspect's address was on Tenth Street. Officers arrived to the house and attempted to make contact with no success.

At that time, the SWAT and Crisis Management Team were activated, and they spent about two hours trying to make contact with the suspect.

"After numerous unsuccessful attempts, the SWAT Team did make a forcible entry into the house, and one male victim was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound," said Rinaldo. "At this time, out homicide unit is investigating, but we believe that the person who we found on Tenth Street was responsible for the double homicide on Layer this morning."

Rinaldo could not provide ages or names, but he said this incident was domestic in nature, saying the two women killed were the mother and grandmother of the 6-year-old child.
