Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) Western New York will be impacted by a large weekend storm that will be spreading ice and snow over 35 states.

The question remains by how much?

On WBEN Friday, Meteorologist Andy Parker said he thinks the impact will be diminished.

"Yes, it's going to snow. It starts in the morning," he said. "You'll be able to go about your day. It doesn't come in as a wall of snow. But it's going to be about a 14 hour light to moderate snow. We can expect 6 to 12 inches of steady snow with no wind."

Parker went on to say that he thinks Western New York is going to be underwhelmed by the storm.

"Everyone in Western New York is going to have to shovel on Sunday, but it's done overnight. And kids will have school on Monday because there's going to be sufficient time for Western New York to clear a 6 to 12 inch snowfall. This is not going to be an end of the world storm. It's going to be a snowy Sunday, but a very manageable situation."

He expects the worst effects to be Sunday afternoon and evening.

There may be some lake influence with the storm. He said "fingers" of lake effect could develop underneath the large area of snow. "We will know more about that in the next 12 hours or so. With more imagery and as we get closer, we may be able to put some communities in a high risk area for 8 to 12 inches."

But again for Monday, Parker anticipates that the snow will have diminished and Western New York will be mostly in clean-up mode. "That amount of snow, over an entire day, with an 8 to 10 hour window to clear it, he said, "it looks pretty good for school and work on Monday."
