Refreshing and beneficial rainfall has arrived across the Buffalo-Niagara region, and you can feel the difference with more comfortable temperatures.

As the rain exits the region late Thursday, it will leave behind Canadian high pressure that will usher in more comfortable humidity levels that will last into the coming week.

"We have an unusual sight this month," National Weather Service meteorologist John Hitchcock tells WBEN. "We actually have widespread rain across Western New York," Hitchcock says. "That will continue through early to mid afternoon, before tapering off late today."

Don't put away the garden hose and sprinkler just yet, however.

"Unfortunately this isn't enough rain to put a dent in the rainfall deficit we've been building this month, Hitchcock notes. "We've only had just over a half an inch of rain for Buffalo for the entire month of July."

High temperatures Thursday will top out only in the low to mid 70's, far below the highs of late in the mid to upper 80's, and even 90.

It's back to dry conditions for Friday, and high temps in the upper 70's. "We dry out Friday, and that dry weather lasts through the weekend and into most of next week," Hitchcock tells us.

While the temps will rebound into the 80's for the weekend and into next week, the air will have a decidedly different feel to it, Hitchcock promises.

"The good news is, the really high humidity doesn't return. The humidity stays comfortable right through next week, even as highs reach the 80's again."
