Summer-like weather continues with an eye on a return to mid-April next week

"Another day in the upper 70's and low 80's. Almost July-like."

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - It's really no surprise that the high temperature in Buffalo Friday tied a record set 'way back when'.

"We did tie a record high yesterday," National Weather Service meteorologist John Hitchcock tells WBEN Saturday morning. "High of 83 yesterday in Buffalo and that tied a record set all the way back in 1883."

And so it goes.

"Another day in the upper 70's and low 80's," Hitchcock says of Saturday. "Almost July-like," he adds and says we'll get another repeat Sunday.

Hitchcock does note the Buffalo metro area should remain mostly dry Saturday, but there is a chance for some showers elsewhere. "There will be a couple spotty showers and maybe an isolated thunderstorm this afternoon, mainly across the southern tier south of Buffalo."

As the work week begins, Mother Nature delivers a change in pattern and temperatures will take a tumble as the week unfolds.

"Monday night into Tuesday we will probably have some wet snow mixing in, especially across the higher terrain of the southern tier," Hitchcock tells us. "Not at all unusual for mid-April."

The cooler temperatures are not a long term pattern, Hitchcock assures us, and will serve as a reminder that it's still spring in Western New York. "That cooler weather will last for a few days and then we start to warm up again later next week."

It's short sleeves and shorts weather for the weekend, Hitchcock tells us. But he also delivers a reminder to Buffalonians as our spring weather continues to unfold.

"Probably a little premature to put away the winter coats just yet."

Thanks for that, John.
