Warming temps, heavy rain Saturday, then snow Monday?

Wild weather swings will continue this Easter weekend, with warming temperatures through the day Saturday in advance of some drenching rains and potentially severe storms,




A quieter and cooler East Sunday will be followed by falling temps Dyngus Day and even the potential for accumulating snow Monday night.

As temperatures warm into the low 70's in spots across the Buffalo-Niagara region Saturday, showers with embedded thunderstorms and potential for heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms will develop late in the day and through tonight, National Weather Service forecasters say.

There could be a narrow window this evening for severe storms across WNY and there is a marginal to slight risk for severe weather. Damaging winds are the primary threat, with an isolated tornado or large hail possible as well.

The possible heavy rainfall could also return some flooding threats across the region. Flood concerns remained through Saturday along the Tonawanda Creek at Rapids in Erie and Niagara counties.

Easter Sunday will be dry, but much cooler as a much colder airmass will drop across the eastern Great Lakes region Sunday night through Tuesday.

Temperatures in the 40's Easter will drop further and readings by Monday night will be below freezing across the region.

Falling snow will be able to accumulate Monday night, with one to two inches expected across our region, with up to 4 inches on the hill tops of the southern tier.

Accumulating snow will end by Tuesday morning. Highs Tuesday are expected to be some 15 to 20 degrees below normal.

Some long range good news can be found as forecasters are eyeing a warming trend for the second week of April.
