If you think it's cooler now, 'it's certainly going to be a taste of fall to start next week'

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - If the cooler temperatures this week have jolted you, following seemingly weeks of unusually warm and, sometimes, humid conditions, just wait until next week.

The noticeable changes will come after fair conditions through most of Saturday and highs around 80 degrees, National Weather Service forecaster Dave Thomas tells WBEN.

"Saturday night, were going to have a cold front come through," Thomas warns. "Showers and a few thunderstorms will last into Sunday morning."

And then? A precursor to fall weather in Western New York.

"We're going to have a pretty significant cooldown the start of next week," Thomas says. "It's certainly going to be a taste of fall to start next week."

Temperatures Monday through Wednesday of next week, temps will average about 10 degrees below normal.

High temperatures will rebound somewhat later in the week, with temps in the mid to upper 70's Thursday and Friday, Thomas predicts.

Are the days of 90 degrees over?

While the shift to cooler air is welcome to many, there are those who will long for the summer heat and humidity as Labor Day approaches.

But summer is not over just yet, Thomas promises.

"We could still possibly see a 90 degree day in September," Thomas notes. "Those very warm and muggy days, their days are numbered."

Lake Erie Temp

The warm summer has meant unusually warm water temperature for Lake Erie. The water temp for Lake Erie as of Friday was 74 degrees, about 2 degrees above normal, and five degrees below its high of 79 degrees.

Get your swim in now, before next week's cooldown.

"That lake temperature will cool down and drop several more degrees next week."
