HBO Max is planning to reboot the hit show "Sex and the City," but after it was confirmed that Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha on the show and in the movies based on the series, will not be participating in the reboot, fans were left to wonder how her character could be explained away.

Did she leave a note on a Post-It asking them not to hate her?

Casey Bloys, chief content officer for HBO Max, insinuated that it may not be as dramatic as a Berger breakup, but that the high-powered public relations professional’s friendship with the other women simply faded over time, reports Today.

“Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave,” said Bloys. “Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life.”

The reboot, which will focus on telling “an honest story about being a woman in her 50s in New York,” will not bring in a replacement for Cattrall. “The friends that you have when you’re 30, you may not have when you’re 50,” noted Bloys.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Sarah Jessica Parker, who will be reprising her role as Carrie Bradshaw in the reboot, said “we’re not looking to create a fourth character. There will be lots of interesting, new characters we are super excited about.”

The actress also shared that the show won’t shy away from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that it will “obviously be part of the storyline. That’s the city [these characters] live in.”

Production for the reboot is slated to begin in late spring in New York. The ten-episode, half-hour series will have an “incredibly diverse” writing room, said Parker.

There is no set premiere date for the new episodes.
