Surveys show the average person changes jobs every four years, but this has not been the case for one 100-year-old man who has set the record for the longest career at the same company at 84 years and nine days.

Walter Orthmann began work at the Brazilian textile company ReneauxView when he was only a teenager, Guinness World Records reported.

Now Orthmann has set the record, verified in January by the record keepers, showing his dedication to the job.

Born on April 19, 1922, in Brazil, the man has been paid in nine different currencies, the first of which he began earning when he started working as a teenager to support his family.

Orthmann applied to work at a weaving mill, and due to knowing German, a primary language spoken in his part of the country due to a larger German population, he was hired as a shipping assistant.

From there, he was promoted to a position in sales before he eventually became a sales manager. In a news release, he shared that he was able to show how hard he could work in this position.

"I traveled to São Paulo, and in less than one week, I filled the production with orders equivalent of three month[s] of work," Orthmann said.

While working was a means to take care of his loved ones, his job eventually became more than that. He shared it gave him a sense of "purpose, commitment, and a routine."

At his age, there aren't many things he says he looks forward to besides the routine he has been doing for years now.

"I don't do much planning, nor care much about tomorrow," Orthmann said. "All I care about is that tomorrow will be another day in which I will wake up, get up, exercise, and go to work."

Being proud of the work he has done in his life, he now says that this world record is his shining achievement.

"You need to get busy with the present, not the past or the future," Orthmann said. "Here and now is what counts. So, let's go to work!"
