On Saturday, Russian fired cruise missiles at the Black Sea port city of Odessa, resulted in the death of six people, which included a 3-month-old baby, Ukrainian officials shared.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, shared in a Telegram post that a residential area of the city was struck by Russian missiles.

Yermak took shots at the Russian forces, who have continued to disregard innocent life throughout their invasion of his country.

"Nothing is sacred," Yermak wrote. "Evil will be punished."

The missile strike wasn't the only assault Russia took on Saturday as forces also attempted to storm a steel plant housing civilians and soldiers in the city of Mariupol. The city is of strategic value to Moscow, and the troops were the last resistance from Ukraine there.

The Kremlin shared the report that the Azovstal plant was the last part of the city to resist its takeover.

It is unknown what has happened to the Ukrainians who were sheltering inside the steel mill, however, reports from CBS News shared that women and children had been sheltering underneath the area for months.

"We want to see peaceful skies, we want to breathe in fresh air," one woman in a video from underneath the mill said. "You have simply no idea what it means for us to simply eat, drink some sweetened tea. For us, it is already happiness."

Mariupol is a part of the Donbas region, which Russia is attempting to control, creating a land corridor with the Crimean peninsula, which Moscow took from Ukraine in 2014.

With the region and city being occupied by Russia, troops will be freed up to fight elsewhere in Ukraine, something Ukrainian officials are preparing for.

Still, there have been signs of weakness in Russia's invasion plan, as the nation continues to face defeats in and around the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.

Ukrainian military expert Yuri Zabnatski told CBS News that Russia had lost almost 3,000 armored vehicles throughout its invasion. However, of the 3,000, only half were lost in combat.

"It's not good military leadership if you are losing so many men and so much equipment," Zbanatski told CBS.

As for the death of innocent Ukrainians, Zelenskyy denounced the war's casualties during his nightly video address while noting Easter's meaning and significance.

"We believe in the victory, of life over death," he said. "No matter how fierce the battles are, there is no chance for death to defeat life. Everyone knows that. Every Christian knows that."
