"I miss my brother," said Bridgett Floyd, George Floyd's sister who spoke to reporters outside the courthouse Monday afternoon.
She was inside the courtroom, and saw former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin for the first time in person.
"I just really want that officer to know how much love there is for my brother, not just from my family but from people around the country."
She also said she hopes that the trial, and demonstrations will proceed peacefully.
"Violence is not the answer, she said. "Sometimes we just need to take a step back."
A member of the Floyd family as well as a member of the Chauvin family will each have one seat in the courtroom throughout the trial.
