PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Penguins forward Bryan Rust is going to start the season on the shelf.

While speaking to Cook and Joe Tuesday, general manager Jim Rutherford said they expect the right-winger to be out for a longer term.

Rust was injured after taking a slap shot to his left hand on Saturday during the final preseason game against Buffalo.

Another injured player, Alex Galchenyuk, who is dealing with a lower-body injury, was missing from practice Tuesday but Rutherford expects him back soon.

“He skated on his own this morning (Tuesday), he will join practice tomorrow,” said Rutherford. “If everything keeps progressing, he’ll be available for opening night.”
