The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency has identified six sailors killed when the USS Oklahoma was sunk during the Dec. 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.
In a series of releases on Wednesday, DPAA announced that Navy Seaman 1st Class Gerald J. Bailey, 24; Shipfitter 3rd Class Robert E. Bailey; Fireman 1st Class Wesley J. Brown, 25; Water Tender 1st Class Oliver K. Burger, 26; Fireman 1st Class Beoin H. Corzatt, 24; and Radioman 3rd Class Earl M. Ellis, 23, have now been identified.
According to DPAA, the men were all assigned to the Oklahoma, which was moored at Ford Island, Pearl Harbor, when it was attacked by Japanese aircraft. The Oklahoma sustained multiple torpedo hits, which caused it to quickly capsize. The attack on the ship resulted in the deaths of 429 crewmen.
DPAA has thus far identified the remains of more than 200 sailors who were killed while serving on the Oklahoma.
