SAINT LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - We've been told many times by cybersecurity experts that a strong password is the first line of defense against hackers. Experts in privacy and identity theft say people are still not heeding the warning.
Data protection firm Lookout has released a list of the top passwords found on the dark web, where cyber criminals share information. That list includes many combinations experts warn against, such as 123456, 123123, abc123 --and in the top four -- the password "Password".

Expert says it's essential to create complex passwords that includes a mix of numbers, letters and special characters.
The non-profit Identity Theft Resource Center recently released it's annual report, which revealed a huge spike in data breaches last year. The center says the number of consumers whose data was compromised not just once, but multiple times remains alarmingly high.
