A new report looking at long COVID finds the impact on those over 65 is significantly greater.

According to the report, in the British Medical Journal, almost 33% of people over 65 developed one or more persistent symptom after COVID-19 exposure — even if they were not sick enough to be hospitalized. To put this in perspective, the risk is more than twice as high as those under 65.

Scientists learned early on that people over 65 were at greater risk for hospitalization, but through what is called observational studies, they are now looking at how people are doing weeks, months, and now years after COVID exposure.

They also compared these people against those over 65 who did not get COVID-19, and those who had COVID-19 were almost 25% more likely to suffer from problems like high blood pressure and fatigue.
