Toledo artist David Ross had created the mural almost a year ago and said that the artwork stands as a memorial and reminder never to forget what happened that day in May of 2020.
Witnesses saw the wall fall, and one said they had seen a lightning bolt strike the building. The strike was later confirmed by the department and named the cause of the collapse.
Some residents have come by to collect bricks of the mural.
"What we do know is that the mural will be replaced," Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said on Wednesday. "We will work with the Arts Commission and the artist to make sure that a new mural can replace the old, so that the message at the core of this artwork can be heard."
According to WWLTV, Ross said he definitely plans on redoing his mural somewhere, and it will be centered around Floyd once more. He mentioned including a double rainbow as he saw one the day of the lightning strike. Ross said he wants to put the new mural in a place where everyone will appreciate it.
