Netflix suspends service in Russia in solidarity with Ukraine

In retaliation of the invasion of Ukraine, Netflix has suspended all services in Russia.

No new customers will be able to sign up and it's unclear what will happen with the upwards of 1 million existing accounts based in Russia, multiple news outlets reported Sunday.

The streaming service announced the decision to cut Russia off from Netflix on Sunday in protest of the country's attack on Ukraine.

"Given the circumstances on the ground, we have decided to suspend our service in Russia," a Netflix spokesperson said, Variety reported.

Netflix joins a multitude of major companies that have recently cut ties with Russia, including Microsoft, Apple, Dell, Ikea and Nike.

The company previously announced that it would pause all future projects and acquisitions based in Russia. Netflix currently has four Russian originals that have been put on hold, the magazine said.
