NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York Attorney General Letitia James’ investigation into the Trump Organization’s dealings amounts to “political persecution,” Donald Trump Jr. claimed in a new interview.

Speaking with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson on Tuesday, former President Donald Trump’s oldest son maintained it was “OK to try to persecute your political enemies, to try to target them, to try to hurt them” in New York state, adding that James’ office had “been doing that for over five years,” the New York Post reported.

“I think it’s a political persecution, and I know that because she literally campaigned on it,” he said. “She was going to investigate the crimes. The problem is, it wasn’t as though she was a part of this office. She had no idea.”

“They’re in search of a crime. They’ve been trying to investigate, to create a crime, because that’s what you’re doing in New York,” he added. “Again, shouldn’t surprise us anymore, but if this was going on in a banana republic, we’d be outraged.”

A spokesperson for James last month confirmed that both her office and the Manhattan District Attorney’s office were “actively investigating the Trump Organization in a criminal capacity.”
