The MLB has a new champion. The Washington Nationals took home their first ever World Series title Wednesday night with a 6-2 game seven win over the Houston Astros.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the top of the 7th inning, Washington drove three players home to take a 3-2 lead. Howie Kendrick led the way with a home run in the 7th that made a 2-1 deficit a 3-2 lead.

Houston wouldn't impact the scoreboard again as the Nationals scored the final three runs to make it 6-2.

Pitching from the likes of Stephen Strasburg, Max Scherzer, and Patrick Corbin was key in Washington's championship season. The Nationals didn't lose a single game in the postseason when Strasburg or Scherzer were on the mound.

Washington's starting pitchers went 5-0 with a 1.98 ERA.

It was a league first when Strasburg was named World Series MVP. He became the first ever former first-overall selection to be named MVP. The top selection in 2009 had the second lowest postseason ERA at 1.98. He also became the first pitcher to ever go 5-0 in the postseason.

A season that started with question marks after Washington lost Bryce Harper to Philadelphia, ended in fairy tale fashion.
