After their American League Championship Series loss to the Houston Astros this postseason, the New York Yankees are looking to make a splash in MLB Free Agency this offseason.

The team met with both free agents Gerrit Cole and Stephen Strasburg yesterday, ESPN's Buster Olney reports.

As @Buster_ESPN reported Andy Pettitte was part was part of #Yankees contingent that met with Gerrit Cole. I heard Pettitte also sat in with Strasburg along with Cashman, Boone and new pitching coach Marty Blake. Was done in a hotel near Boras’ office in Newport Beach.

What caught many Yankees fans attention was who they also had present in their meetings: five-time World Series champion Andy Pettitte.

He spent his entire 18-year MLB career with the Yankees (1995-2003, 2007-10, 2012-13) and the Astros (2004-06).

Cole was brilliant in 2019, posting a 20-5 record with a 2.50 ERA and 312 strikeouts in 212.1 innings pitched.

Strasburg is fresh off winning the World Series with the Washington Nationals in October, the team's first in franchise history. He was named World Series Most Valuable Player, pitching 14 1/3 innings while striking out 14 batters and only giving up a remarkable 12 hits.

The 2010s became the first decade since the 1910s the Yankees didn't advance to the Fall Classic atleast once during that 10-year span. Could Pettitte be the extra push the Yankees need to pick up one of these free agent gems? Only time will tell.
