New York Yankees skipper Aaron Boone was nominated as one of the finalists for the American League Manager of the Year award.

The award winner was announced Tuesday night and it came as a surprise to some when Boone finished second in the voting, with Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli taking home the hardware. He led the Twins to 101 wins and their first AL Central title since 2012.

Boone and Baldelli each had 13 first-place votes, but Baldelli received more second-place votes (13-9).

The Bronx Bombers set a MLB record with 30 different players spending time on the injured list during the 2019 season. The previous record was held by the 2016 Los Angeles Dodgers, who had 26 players on the IL.

Despite all that, Boone led the Yankees to 103 wins and their first AL East divison title since 2012.

Boone joined the Yankees prior to the 2018 season and with those 103 wins in 2019, he also became the first manager in MLB history to win 100+ games in his first two seasons.

The Yankees were eliminated after falling in six games to the Houston Astros in the 2019 American League Championship Series.
