When will it end?

The Yankees placed first baseman Greg Bird on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left plantar fascia tear, making him the latest in a long line of high-profile Bombers to be sidelined. The move is retroactive to Sunday.

Through 10 games this season, Bird is hitting .171 with one homer and an RBI.

Injuries have been a constant problem for Bird since he arrived in the majors in 2015. He missed all of the 2016 season after undergoing shoulder surgery, and foot and ankle injuries cost him to miss significant time each of the past two years. He has yet to play in more than 82 games in a season.

The Yankees have called up first baseman Mike Ford from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Mike Ford was a non-drafted pickup from Princeton that scouts have told me would get a big league chance at some point. It’s here now. Was off to a good start at AAA including a 3 HR game last week.

The addition of Bird brings the Yankees' IL to 12 players. He joins catcher Gary Sanchez (calf), infielders Troy Tulowitzki (calf), Didi Gregorius (elbow) and Miguel Andujar (shoulder), outfielders Giancarlo Stanton (biceps), Aaron Hicks (back) and Jacoby Ellsbury (hip), and pitchers Luis Severino (shoulder), Jordan Montgomery (elbow), Dellin Betances (shoulder) and Ben Heller (elbow).

New York transferred Ellsbury to the 60-day IL on Tuesday.

The Yankees are 6-9 as they open a two-game home series Tuesday night against the Red Sox.
