Keith did not hold back when reacting to the Jets’ latest show of support for Zach Wilson, and what it means in terms of where the organization is when it comes to the outlook for the rest of the season.
“I feel like it’s negligent. It’s malpractice,” Keith said. “It’s almost ignorant to keep rolling Zach Wilson out there.
“It’s like the Yankees with IKF. ‘Our defensive metrics tell us he’s one of the best defensive shortstops in the league.’ We’re watching the games and he’s booting balls left and right!”
Keith can’t be convinced that Tim Boyle wouldn’t be able to move the offense more efficiently than Wilson has shown in his first three seasons in the league, and if it comes to that point, where Boyle takes the starting job, and the team improves, it will be another stain on the current regime’s reputation, where wins were left on the table due to a relentless belief in Wilson.
“If it happens again,” Keith said. “What does that say about all these games that you rolled him back out there?”
But at this point, that move needs to be made sooner than later.
“You can’t let it go until your playoff odds disappear,” Keith said. “A lot of these guys were in the locker room last year. They’re not going for it.”
