Many Yankee fans want to see Hal Steinbrenner bring in a new general manager, and while C-Mac supports the idea of moving on from Brian Cashman, he warns fans that change could bring about worse results.

“Brian Cashman, up until this year, gives you a floor. You know what the floor is,” C-Mac said. “Whoever you bring in, if you let him run his own show, you don’t know what the floor is. He’s given you a track record of the floor. Not good enough for me, not good enough for you, but Steinbrenner, on some level, being around baseball people, will tell you it’s not easy to do this thing, and he understands there’s a floor to it.”

Since taking over in 1998, Cashman’s floor has been a team that finishes above .500, while the ceiling is championships, though that hasn’t been reached in 14 years. Many are ready for a new face to replace the longest tenured GM in baseball, and while C-Mac agrees, there is a risk that comes with that change.

“Brian Cashman’s floor is pretty good,” C-Mac said. “He keeps it clean, he mops, he vacuums, he cleans the grout off the tiles.”
