The five-year-old boy thrown over a third floor balcony at the Mall of America two weeks ago has made a dramatic recovery: he is awake and is no longer in critical condition, according to his family.
"We are so elated to let you know that our son is now alert and conscious and is no longer in critical condition", the family's spokesperson Stephen Tillit read in a statement to reporters on Friday afternoon.
Only three days ago Landen, the boy who suffered "significant" injuries on April 12 after having been tossed from the balcony and falling approximently 40-feet, was still in intensive care and under sedation. The family said that now they are plannigng for his return, though there is still progress to be made. "We are now turning our focus to additional surgeries, healing, rehabilitation and eventually a return home, which we hope will happen by June," Tillit said.
A Go Fund Me to pay for Landen's medical expenses raised nearly $1 million. The family expessed their gratitude. "Your love and generosity overwhelms and means so much to us", the family's statement says.
The man arrested for throwing the boy, 24-year old Emmanuel Aranda, is in jail charged with attempted murder.
