All-night service changes for Metro Transit

Changes to Metro Transit's all-night service on the Green Line began Monday morning.

After offering light rail service to both downtown Minneapolis and Saint Paul for five years, Metro Transit began shutting down service between 2 and 4 a.m.  Crews will perform maintenance on the trains during the time period Sunday through Thursday.  Bus service is offered as a replacement.

Social service advocates say the new policy diplaces dozens of homeless people who would sleep in trains during those hours. Metro Transit officials say light rail is not equipped to provide shelter, with no restrooms or running water.

Additional Metro Transit route changes started Saturday, August 17.
