The man accused of kidnapping Jayme Closs and murdering her parents last October in Barron, Wis., is due back in court for his arraignment Wednesday.
Jake Patterson is charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide, kidnapping and armed burglary. Patterson is accused of kidnapping of Jayme Closs on Oct. 15 last year in Barron, Wis. The 13-year-old was abducted from her home, and prosecutors say she had to watch as Patterson allegedly shot and killed her father and mother, James and Denise.
During his time in jail, he's reached out to a couple of media outlets, explaining that he intends to plead guilty, but it's not yet known what his attorney plans to do. He also confessed to police when he was arrested.
Twin Cities defense attorney Joe Tamburino, who is not associated with the case, says it's a difficult case for his public defender.
"They probably are thinking, 'What is this guy doing?' because he's not making the situation any better for himself in terms of fighting the case in court," he said.
Jayme was taken to a cabin 70 miles away in Gordon, Wis., and held in captivity for 88 days until she escaped and ran for help.
The court appearance is scheduled for 1 p.m.
