It's now officially "George Perry Floyd Jr. Place"

It's official now.

The two-block stretch of Chicago Ave. in south Minneapolis surrounding the site of George Floyd's death at the hands of police bears his name.

Minneapolis city council on Friday approved the name change to "George Perry Floyd Jr. Place."

Mayor Jacob Frey has indicated he'll likely sign off on the move.

Signage will be placed at the intersection of 38th and Chicago.

Floyd died in the street adjacent to the intesection as officers were making an arrest for allegedly passing counterfeit money.

Video of an officer kneeling on Floyd's neck until he went motionless went viral and sparked demonstrations and unrest in Minneapolis and around the world.

Four former Minneapolis officers face charges in Floyd's death.
