The dream is over for Coon Rapids-Anoka at the Little League World Series.
But what a ride it was.
After rallying to win the Midwest Regional tournament, Minnesota's entry took its opener in Williamsport, Pa., then lost its next two.
They beat Bowling Green, Kent. 2-1 last week to start off the tournament before losing 11-0 to South Riding, Va. on Sunday.
Like the loss to the Virginia team, Monday's loss was stopped after four innings because of the mercy rule.
Coon Rapids-Andover may be out of the running for the title, but the team isn't coming home just yet.
"We're trying to schedule a friendship game, try to get one set up with an international team," said Bloom. "Which I think will be great, play kids you'll probably never see again."
Depite the disappointing performance, Coon Rapids-Andover received much attention, with the only girl participating in this year's tournament.
Maddy Freking became the 19th girl to play in the Little League World Series, now in its 73rd year, and sixth to pitch in a game.
She earned praise when she pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in Sunday's game, at one time pouncing on a dribbler in front of the mound and flipping the ball to the plate for a force play.
"It's pretty incredible," said Maddy's mother Jessica. "She's a pretty humble kid, she's just done a really good job."
Following the elimination game, not only met with reporters, whe was seen signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans.
"I wasn't expecting all of this," Jessica said. "She doesn't mind."
This was the seventh time since 2010 that Minnesota has sent a team to the Little League World Series, all without winning the title.
