A domestic violence call Sunday night in Duluth ends with a deadly shootout.
Duluth Police Officers responded to a report of domestic assault with a weapon at 6:29 p.m. in the 1000 block of West Skyline Parkway.
When officers arrived, they found a man inside the home.
According to investigators, officers worked for an hour to get the suspect to turn himself in so they could peacefully take him into custody.
When that didn't work, they say the man began shooting at officers, striking one cop, causing non-life threatening injuries.
The officer's K9 companion was struck and killed by the gunfire.
Officials say a different officer on the scene returned gunfire before entering the house on West Skyline Parkway.
That's when a man was found inside the home dead.
The injured officer has been released from the hospital.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will be conducting this investigation.
Officials with that agency say more details on this officer involved shooting will be available on Monday.
