(WCCO/AP) -- Iran says authorities have made arrests in the accidental shootdown of a Ukrainian International airliner where all 176 people on board died.
The president of Iran has called for a special court to be set up to try those responsible while he pointed to mistakes and negligence, he also repeated the government's line that, "the plane tragedy was ultimately rooted in U S aggression".
The two countries have had a strained relationship for decades. Recent events have amplified a tense situation that's put Iranian-American-Minnesotans in a difficult place.
Hamid Kashini is an architect and studied at the University of Minnesota. He has lived in the Bloomington area for deacedes and he told WCCO's Sloane Martin that life in Iran is hard.
"As long as people like Soleimani and his organization are empowering Iran, that is going to be extremely difficult," said Kashini.
Kashani also told WCCO that although the U.S. and Minnesota is home for him now, Iran will always be special to him.
"Although I am an American citizen and I considered United States my home, there's still part of me still back in Iran. I feel the pain that those people go through and it's not something that can easily be forgotten."
