After injuring his wrist heading into the All-Star Break, we finally have word on the outlook for Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns.
And it's not good.
Towns had sought a second opinion on his injured wrist during the All-Star Break. It's now been determined that the wrist is fractured. The team is saying Towns is expected to miss 2-3 weeks.
The bad news came before the Wolves went out and fell to the Celtics a 127-117 at Target Center.
Gordon Hayward scored 29 points, Daniel Theis had career highs with 25 points and 16 rebounds, and the Celtics won for the ninth time in 10 games.
Malik Beasley scored 27 points and D'Angelo Russell had 18 points and a season-high 13 assists for the Timberwolves, who have lost 16 of their last 17 games.
It looked like Towns hurt the wrist on a fall in Toronto on February 10th. He tried to play through the injury but an MRI revealed the fracture.
The good news is that it is not a season-ending injury.
Prior to Wednesday's practice, Towns was seen taking one-handing shots, catching and shooting with his right hand while wearing a brace on the left.
The Timberwolves made a flurry of trades heading into the trade deadline, including bringing in D'Angelo Russell, a close friend of Towns. The team is hoping to get those two on the court together as much as possible down the stretch so they can work on their chemistry.
Also on the injury front, Jake Layman appears ready to return. The Timberwolves announced he will return the practice following an injured toe that has kept him out since November.
Laymen, averaging just over 10 points a game off the bench, would likely be ready to play by Monday's game in Dallas, which is the second night of a back-to-back. No official word yet from the team on when Layman would suit up.
