Police union president Lt. Bob Kroll wrote a letter commending police officers for their work over the last six days and criticized protests in a letter to the police union. Kroll was called out on Twitter by former Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau, calling for him to turn in his badge.

A disgrace to the badge! This is the battle that myself and others have been fighting against. Bob Kroll turn in your badge! pic.twitter.com/SQmeNIIU3v

In his letter Kroll wrote to members of the police union he called out Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey, stating that they have refused to acknowledge the work that Minneapolis Police are doing. He also said that politicians are to blame but are using the Minneapolis Police Department as scapegoats. He called out their late action and stated that if they were given the right numbers, equipment and ability to use them, this would have ended on Tuesday night.

The “record-breaking riot” that he mentions several times throughout the letter is in response to the death of George Floyd, an African American man who lost his life at the hands of former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin. In the letter, Kroll mentions the termination of all four officers who were involved and mentions how it was done without “due process.”

He also mentions the efforts of the Minnesota National Guard in his letter and says that he helped give a detailed plan to the assignment of 2000 to 3000 citizen soldiers. Kroll then mentions that he has been working with police leaders from other cities from New York to Las Vegas to, “push are messaging on a national level.”

“What is not being told is the violent criminal history of George Floyd,” Kroll said, stating that, “the media will not air this.”

To explain the silence from the union, beyond its initial press release, Kroll says that it was to avoid a negative impact and safety implications of officers while they are trying to do their work.

Kroll briefly mentions another incident that involved officers firing shots on a car that was accelerating towards them and mentions that it is being investigated.

To end his letter Kroll acknowledges the work that police officers are doing and reinforces his support for them.

“We see the heroic work being done. We acknowledge it and commend you for it. Please take care of one another and stay as safe as possible,” Kroll said.

Earlier this week Kroll had come under fire after a video of him in October of last year surfaced. The video showed him saying that President Obama had handcuffed and oppressed officers during his time in office.

In October, Bob Kroll - the head of the Minneapolis police union - spoke at a Trump rally.“The first thing Trump did when he took office was he let the cops start doing their job - putting the handcuffs on criminals instead of us.” #GeorgeFloydProtests pic.twitter.com/wyq6kbCyJi
