
Wilson backed up Tommy Kramer until 1987, when he took over the starting QB job. Wilson led the Vikings into the post-season, highlighted by an upset victory over the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round. The Vikings then lost the NFC Championship game to the Washington Redskins.
Wilson went on to play for the Falcons, Saints, Cowboys, and Raiders until his retirement in 1999.
He then became a quarterbacks coach in the NFL, for the Bears and Cowboys.
Wade Wilson had been suffering from diabetes. He passed away at his home in Texas Friday, which was his 60th birthday. Wilson is survived by four children.
