Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman talked very candidly Tuesday about his battle with alcohol.

Freeman sought outpatient help for alcohol abuse earlier this year, which caused him to take a leave of absence from the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.

Freeman admitted to Chad that it's uncomfortable talking openly about his issues.

"Most folks, it's up to the family and close friends. It's not real nice to be talking, even with someone as charming as you on the radio, about my drinking issues."

Freeman admits high profile cases, like the police shootings of Jamar Clark and Justine Damond, contributed to his stress and therefore his alcohol abuse.  He also says a tough and nasty reelection campaign raised his stress level.

Since ending treatment, Freeman says he's lost 15 pounds, and that his color is better.  He says he never considered resigning, but that he knows from now on he'll have to handle the stresses of the job in healthier ways.

"If I want to do this job, I have to know that that's part of it.  And I'm prepared to do that, God willing."
