The ice fishing might still be pretty good on southern Minnesota lakes, but the law is the law.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says all ice-fishing houses on lakes in the southern part of the state must be removed on Monday.

Take action NOW! Fish houses need to be pulled off lakes south of the line by midnight Monday, March 4. Anything other than an imprint that’s left on the ice is litter. https://t.co/Qphg4PjuQK #FishMN pic.twitter.com/YdgKAa6Q8W

This comes with freezing temperatures enveloping Minnesota, temperatures that are sure to make the ice thicker and stronger.

No matter.

The law stipulates the removal of the shacks no later than midnight on the first Monday of March on lakes south of a line from Moorhead east to Duluth.

For ice fish houses north of that line, the deadline for removal is March 18.

The DNR continues to point out that no ice is 100 % safe to walk on, much less for driving vehicles.
